	Anubis in Full Jackal Form Anubis; the son of Osiris and Nephthys, is portrayed here in his jackal form, though he is more commonly represented as a jackal-headed man. Anubis first attained renown after conducting the first embalming in history on his father Osiris, whom was dismembered by his brother, Set. This granted Osiris immortality, and both father and son ruled over different aspects of the underworld. 	Aphrodite Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Here she is shown drawing back her long locks to reveal the graceful lines of her neck. Beside her is a classic Greek pillar and a small vessel brimming with water to the point of overflowing. Aphrodite is known to incite feelings of love and lust wherever she goes. She is a contender in the story of the Golden Apples, when Paris chooses her as the fairest of the three goddesses (the others were Hera and Athena) and Aphrodite decides to "reward" him for giving her the Golden Apple (the prototype of most modern awards) by giving him the love of Helen of Troy, something of a mixed blessing that led to the Trojan War. 	Aphrodite with Doves This beautiful goddess, who could cause any man to fall in love with her at first sight, is the Greek goddess of love, beauty and raw sexuality. While in the Illiad she is said to have been born of the union between Zeus and Dione, the more common belief is that she rose from sea foam after Cronus cut off Ouranos`s genitals and cast them into the sea. From this foam she emerged, and floated to the shore on a scallop shell. Much as two origins were debated and spoken of, she was widely worshipped from two points of view. The first belief held that she was the goddess of the love for mind and soul, while in the second belief she was more held in esteem in a goddess of the love of the flesh alone. In this statue, she could easily be a goddess of either quality, seeming to possess a serenity that one might find with the love of the spirit as well as a beauty and grace equal to the love of the flesh. 	Artemis Statue The goddess of forests, virginity and the hunt, Artemis was one of the most widely revered goddesses of ancient Greece, and was often regarded as the beautiful daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister to the famed god Apollo. Indeed, she was even said to have been born first, before immediately aiding her mother in the birth of Apollo, and for this reason she is often viewed as a goddess of fertility and childbirth. Often depicted with a bow and arrows, she is also viewed as a fearsome woman, who was said to have often punished or slain those who offended her or forgot to make offerings to her at the proper times. 	Bastet in Cat Form The powerful protector goddess of lower Egypt, Bastet `s, or Bast`s, very name means "the devourer," indicating the ferocity for which she was known in defending her own. This small statue offers a representation of her not unlike that which was found in ancient Egypt. Standing 5 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" deep, it is the image of a cat sitting on her haunches and decorated in the jewels of Egyptian royalty, and marked with the Eye of Horus.
